Update on “The Boys”

It’s been about 10 days since our last blog entry. Amazing how much time 2 little bear cubs can add to a day-or maybe that should be take away from a day!

“The Boys” as they’re known around here, are now being fed about every 4 hours instead of every 3 hours. The last feeding of the night is at 10:30p.m. and they get us up between 3:00 and 3:30 a.m. although one night they slept until 4:30a.m.!

They doubled their weight in the first 10 days here and continue to grow like weeds. Sometimes we swear they grow by the hour. They have graduated to larger baby bottles as in the last couple days they’ve jumped from eating 3-4 ounces/feeding to almost 5.

Bottles are growing along with the bear cubs.

We’ve been working at trying to find surrogate moms for them. With budget cuts and personnel changes, though, the bear research projects that have provided us with den sites/moms for previous years are now ending or have ended.

Right now we have the possibility of one den and it’s not looking promising. With that thought on the horizon we are planning for the long haul and have received our second formula order.
